INFO:
The earliest castings had a raised lip surrounding the shifter, which must be removed to accommodate the new pad.

Consult manual and remove old part from the car.

Strip all vinyl and foam from the core with sharp utility knife, putty knife and wire brush

With a clean cloth use Acetone to painstakingly clean your core

Inspect the casting for cracks and or excessive corrosion. If either is present replace for repair. The casting is a structural part of the car!

Scuff the flaps using sandpaper on any area that glue may be applied.

You want to remove the entire mold release wax agent used in the construction of the support cover and give the glue a rough surface to bond to

Taping Option

Slip new padded skin in place on the core
Glue first the flaps that wrap under the “shifter surround” making sure the pad is snug to the casting and the wrap around edge is tidy, next wrap around the leg flaps

Holding the front and back flaps firmly in place. Cut the bolt holes from the underside (using X-ACTO knife) and glue the side flap under, use the X-ACTO knife and utility knife to cut the radio fascia patterns from the backside, guiding on the casting.

Also cut out the vinyl on top to mate with the switch plate and notch if needed for lamp wiring

Bond surface liberally using a small bottle of contact cement with a brush

Do not use an aerosol spray adhesive.

Gluing Option

Apply the glue to the casting & support pad. Let dry.

There is no need to apply glue on every surface of your new support pad.

Place a pattern of overlay pieces of thin plastic polyethylene over the casting. Mount your dash on top of the plastic strips.
Pull free from between madding surfaces easing the correct index of the assembly.

Also cut out the vinyl on top to mate with the switch plate and notch if needed for lamp wiring
